Sexy comfort cuisine was my nickname in college (UNC Chapel Hill 2010. Go Heels. Go America), so I was glad to find out that there was a local restaurant serving food with the same description.
Water For Chocolate on W. Lombard Street in Upper Fells Point/Butchers Hill may be named after the best-selling novel, but it's the sophisticated Southern dishes from this local gem that will leave your mouth watering for more.
Just ask Queen Latifah, who graced WFC with her presence last year.
Mr. Sexy Comfort Cuisine himself aka Chef Sean Guy has had tremendous support from the local community after his restaurant was severely damaged from a fire in 2015. The Baltimore Sun named WFC 'Best Comfort Food Spot' in 2017 thanks to his twists on Southern fare, such as the sweet potato polenta (topped with roasted vegetables and a fried egg)
or Sean's take on Shrimp and Grits - BBQ shrimp atop Parmesan grits with jalapeno cornbread. Chef Guy should re-name the dish "Shrimp with ParmeSEAN grits." I'm from North Carolina, so I don't trust a lot of Northern restaurants (Baltimore counts as the North. Don't @ me) with grits. Sean's rendition is bangin.
Lest we not talk about some of the lighter fare Sean serves - including the Chipotle Maple Salmon (ok maybe it's not so light, but man is it one of my favorite non-crab seafood dishes in Charm City)
or the quinoa-brown rice bowl with roasted vegetables.
The hardest part about eating at Water for Chocolate is figuring out what you want to order. Everything is spectacular.
